I'm Taking Part in the Defold Game Jam

Hello, this is Yuu!

Last week I posted my look back on the js13kGames feedback, but without ever announcing it on the blog, I had actually entered Defold Game Jam 2026, which ran right after js13kGames. Two days left until the deadline. Today is the real crunch, so with time this tight, I’m keeping this post short.

This is my first time using the game engine Defold. I had started building a game in Love2D after js13kGames, and since both are built around Lua, I went in expecting to have no trouble with it. I had only worked through a few tutorials before the jam started, so there was plenty I didn’t understand at that point, but by now I’ve gotten fairly comfortable with it. I had never used integrated environments like Unity or Godot before, so this kind of editor isn’t my strong suit, and yet it turned out to fit me reasonably well.

This year’s theme is Chain Reaction. A few entries have already been published, and following the theme myself, I came up with a system where the longer the chain, the more enemies you can take out at once. I did worry that it would overlap with Prism Rush from js13kGames, but this time I’ve built it without any button mashing.

I’m planning to write about this game in detail next week. It’s going to come down to the wire this time and it’s been pretty rough, but I’m going to push through the remaining work so I can get it finished!
