Koi-Koi has been released

Hello, this is Yuu!

After around seven weeks of development, I was finally able to release Koi-Koi!

Koi-Koi

Koi-Koi

A 3D Hanafuda card game (Koi-Koi)

Looking back at my earlier blog posts, I had originally planned to release this game in about a month.

However, once I actually started working on it, I ended up spending much more time than expected dealing with some of the challenges that come with Three.js and figuring out how to organize the growing amount of code.

As a result, not only PvP but also some of the special yaku I originally planned to implement have been postponed for now.

For the moment, I decided to focus on getting the basic version of Koi-Koi into a playable and releasable state. I can think about adding more features later.

To be honest, this is not something unique to this project. When I start making a game, I usually have the most momentum at the beginning.

I start out with a clear idea of what I want to make, but as I add features and make changes, the code gradually starts to drift away from what I originally had in mind.

Even though I am the one deciding what to build and moving forward at my own pace, I often find myself wondering whether I should really keep going in the same direction.

Should I spend more time improving the games I have already released? Or should I move on once a project reaches a certain point and keep making new things?

Lately, I have found myself less and less sure about the answer.

It is a little different from becoming too popular and being overwhelmed with updates and support, but in my case, I think I am struggling with a different question: how much time should I continue spending on something I have already made?

That said, I was able to bring Koi-Koi to a release, which feels like an important milestone.

js13kGames is also coming up soon, and while working on that, I might find something else that I want to make.

I still do not know what the right direction is from here.

But for now, Koi-Koi has reached a point where I can call it finished, at least for the moment. So I am going to take some time to think about what comes next while continuing to make something new.
