I Started Making a Mahjong Game
Posted on May 17, 2026

Hello, this is Yuu!
It has already been about two months since my roguelike Sokoban project stalled due to asset-related issues.
I still want to come back to it someday when the timing feels right.
Recently, I came across a Mahjong game that reminded me of an old title I used to play many years ago.
The nostalgia hit me harder than expected, and before I knew it, I had spent the entire night playing it.
That experience eventually led me to think:
“Why not try making a Mahjong game myself?”
So I decided to start a new project.
To be honest, I’m still far from being an expert at Mahjong rules.
I still make beginner mistakes sometimes, so there’s definitely some uncertainty about whether I can create something that truly feels like a proper Mahjong game.
At the moment, I’m working on the very basics, mainly arranging Mahjong tiles on the screen.
Once I actually started building it, I realized that even displaying tiles properly is more difficult than I expected.
Things that looked fine at first suddenly felt awkward once I used real Mahjong tile assets, so there is still a lot of trial and error ahead.
Even so, the project is slowly starting to take shape, and I hope I can eventually release something playable.
