Rolling Dice

Hello, this is Yuu!
Yesterday’s post was also about what I worked on yesterday, but I got so absorbed in it that today’s entry is about the same topic again.

Have you ever thought about what it really means to “roll dice”?
Dice are one of the highlights of any board game, but when you try to reproduce that on a game screen, it turns out to be surprisingly difficult.
In the first version, I tried simulating dice rolls in 3D space.

I thought about playing only a part of this video, but since it’s the result of a physics simulation, it doesn’t behave exactly the same way every time.
Because of that, the animation position changes depending on the outcome, and sometimes the dice movement feels sluggish.

In the end, I decided to draw the dice directly on the game screen, but reproducing the throwing motion the way I wanted was quite a challenge.
I’ve managed to get it into a somewhat presentable shape, but it’s still far from perfect.
