Koi-Koi has been released

Hello, this is Yuu! After around seven weeks of development, I was finally able to release Koi-Koi! Koi-KoiA 3D Hanafuda card game (Koi-Koi) Play in Browser Looking back at my earlier blog posts, I had originally planned to release this game in about a month. However, once I actually started working on it, I ended up spending much more time than expected dealing with some of the challenges that come with Three.js and figuring out how to organize the growing amount of code.

Unicorns and Rainbows

Unicorns and Rainbows

Hi, this is Yuu! This week, I started making a game for js13kGames, which started recently. Rather than only sharing my development progress on this blog, I’d also like to participate in game jams like this in the future. This year’s theme is “Unicorns and Rainbows.” It’s not a theme that I’m particularly familiar with in Japan, but personally, it reminded me of the time when MLP (My Little Pony) and bronies were popular.

Always Chasing Hanafuda Refactoring

Always Chasing Hanafuda Refactoring

Hello, this is Yuu! There hasn’t been any major progress since last week. I’ve mostly been working on the lobby screen, which had been nothing more than a placeholder screen until now. I’ve also been repeatedly refactoring the code because it keeps getting bigger and bigger. At this point, I sometimes start to wonder, “What am I even doing?” This is something I’ve struggled with since the Flyjong days. I tend to enjoy making games starting from the code rather than writing code based on the game I want to make, so this kind of situation can be surprisingly difficult for me.

Even Hanafuda Turned Into a Rabbit Hole

Even Hanafuda Turned Into a Rabbit Hole

Hello, this is Yuu! Last week, I lost a bit of motivation while working on the game’s UI. To take a break, I spent some time building a small web app and even experimented with a shooting game. In the end, neither project felt substantial enough to share, so I ended up taking a short break instead. Interestingly, stepping away from the project had the opposite effect I expected. After the break, I found myself motivated to work on the Hanafuda game again.

About the Concept Behind My Hanafuda Game

About the Concept Behind My Hanafuda Game

Hello, this is Yuu! This week was mostly about polishing rather than implementing new features. I spent most of my time fine-tuning things like how the cards move and how they feel when placed on the table. Choosing to make the game in 3D seemed like a casual decision at first, but I’ve started to regret it a little. Before I knew it, another week had passed just adjusting the UI.

I've Started Making a Hanafuda Game

I've Started Making a Hanafuda Game

Hello, this is Yuu! After last week’s release, I’ve already started working on my next project: a Hanafuda game. This time, I’m also challenging myself to make it in 3D. Just like Flyjong, I’m building everything without using Unity or Unreal Engine 5, and so far the development has been going smoothly without any major issues. I’m very happy with how my previous game turned out, but it also took much longer to release than I had originally planned. This time I’d like to finish the project in a shorter amount of time. That said, I’m experimenting with several new ideas, so it could still end up taking longer than expected. I also plan to add PvP, so I’ll probably keep the visual effects a bit more restrained and focus more on the gameplay itself.

Hello, I’m Yuu! I’m happy to announce that I finally released flyjong, a project I’ve been working on for over two months. flyjongA strip-mahjong-style riichi mahjong for two players Play in Browser The core of the game was finished in about a month, but I kept polishing the small details until I was satisfied. As a result, both the release and my blog updates ended up taking longer than I had originally planned. Still, I’m glad to finally share it with everyone.

Working on Mahjong Tile Design

Working on Mahjong Tile Design

Hello, this is Yuu! Following up from last week, I’d like to share another update on my Mahjong game project. Right now, development has progressed to just before the AI implementation stage, and I’ve been focusing heavily on the UI. One thing I spent a surprising amount of time on this week was the appearance of the Mahjong tiles. I actually ended up redrawing them three times.
